Hi Marjorie,
I'm glad you found the comments useful. I was intrigued to find the two women from
Devonshire (Julia Hoare and Elizabeth Henwood) in Ystradfellte in 1861, and I noticed that
the Head of the household, Richard Woodward (possibly a nephew of Elizabeth Henwood) was
described as a 'Powder Maker'. I also found Richard Woodward and Elizabeth Henwood
together in the 1851 census in Stoke Damerel in Devon (he is a lodger in her home). To
follow up on what might be an interesting story of internal migration you might like to
explore the history of gunpowder making in the Neath valley - see, for instance,

All the best
Shirley

Subject: [POWYS] Watkins family
Thank you very much Shirley and Anna for your very helpful information and
advice. I feel sure the Mary Julia Ann Hoar/Hore/Hoare is the Julia I have
been looking for, and that the marriage to Levy Watkins is her marriage to
Levi. I shall look for the court records in the hope of finding a
reference to Edward's father.
Thanks again,
Best wishes
Marjorie
