Dear Listers,
An email containing a suspicious message was circulated on the Powys List
this morning, apparently arising from the email account of Powys List member
Shirley Frost.
The message has probably been sent to all the contacts in her email address
book.
This suggests that her email account has been hacked into and is now being
used to distribute inappropriate messages. I have advised her to attend to
this problem immediately and block access to her email account e.g. by
changing the access password. I have suggested she contacts her email
account host (AOL) about doing this.
In the meantime, I have set her Powys List account to 'moderated' status, so
that I can review any messages arriving from her account before releasing
them to the Powys List.
I have asked RootsWeb to remove the offending message from the List
Archives.
Shirley Frost is a long-standing member of the Powys List and is in no way
responsible for the message apparently arising from her email account.
I wish to thank Powys List members Glenys Travis, Martin Hughes, and Andrew
Cole for alerting me and the List to this incident.
Kind regards,
John
