Hi all,
I'm researching the EMERSON families of the North Pennines, particularly
with regard to the Lead mining industry. From the 1689 will of Cuthbert
EMERSON of Eshgill, Garrigill, Cumberland, he names his wife Ann, his sons
Nicholas and Joseph and daughters Mary and Isable.
Joseph EMERSON married Susanna WALTON, and died 6 June 1750 of Crossgill,
parish Alston aged 71. His wife, Susanna, was considerably younger being
baptised in Alston in 1713. Joseph left a will naming his wife Susanna, and
his nephew Evan EMERSON.
Susanna re-married to Evan EMERSON on 24 September 1753 in Garrigill,
Cumberland. They lived in Temple Sowerby, Westmoreland, and are buried
there, Evan EMERSON, Gentleman, died on 5 March 1791 aged 73. He left a
will, dated 1784, which includes bequests to his cousin Joseph DICKENSON of
Tynehead, parish Alston, and to David EVANS and Nicholas EVANS, Gentlemen of
Placedue, (Plas-du), Montgomeryshire. I have found their baptisms in
Pennant Melangell in 1748 and 1753 respectively, sons of Thomas EVANS and
Ann his wife, of Plas-du. He also leaves a bequest to Jane ROBERTS, of <K
or R.arth?>, Montgomeryshire.
I found an online epitaph: Pennant Melangell - Here lyeth the body of
Nicholas EMERSON a Cumberland Gent. but marryed to daughter of Evan ROBERTS
of Pengwern who was buryed 4th May 1721 aged 44.
Findmypast has the burial but gives the year as 1728.
Can anyone please help with the name of the daughter of Evan ROBERTS who
married Nicholas EMERSON, when and where they married, and the baptism of
Evan EMERSON? I am also trying to find out if Nicholas EMERSON left a will.
Many thanks indeed if anyone can shed any light on any of the above.
Kind regards,
Yvonne Purdy
