Thanks. Actually, I got an email this morning telling me that, if I go into
the link on GenFair labeled "suppliers" instead of doing a search for
Montgomery or Montgomeryshire, the MI's are listed there. Thank heaven. I guess
no one put those words in as keywords for the website search function. I do
have a number of booklets I want to order, but the family I was working on
when I sent the email wasn't even my own. I was just trying to find a little
information to verify something for someone else.
I do belong to about 15 genealogical societies, and I buy their publications
as part of my effort to support them. I'd belong to more, but then I'd have
no money left to buy books. These local and regional societies provide a
valuable service that cannot be replaced by internet giants like Ancestry. For
one thing, I have to laugh outloud at times when I see how some of their
indexers interpreted names. One I ran across lately had both the name and the
sex wrong. Somewhere out there, someone may be looking for an Olive Benbow
when they should be looking for Owen Benbow. It was only by comparing several
different census records, and seeing the person's age stay consistent across
those, that I figured out that I hadn't missed a child after all.
Those of us who are overseas appreciate the ability to order things easily
and securely.
