Thanks for you information Julie.
I shall follow up the sites you were good enough to provide and see what
happens.
My grandfather Alexander Isaac born (26 Oct 1880) and was killed in a
coal mine accident on (21 Feb 1921)
and my father Robert Alexander Isaac emigrated to Australia in 1926. My
father was an only child so it's
very difficult chasing up my English and Welsh roots .
Thanks again,
Barry Isaac

Barry,
"Llancadwaladr" is *not* a parish located in Montgomeryshire but, rather,
it's in Denbighshire ("Llangadwaladr"), to the south, very near the border
with Montgomeryshire -- there's also a parish of the same name in Anglesey.
GENUKI pages for Denbighshire -- much information here:
http://www.genuki.org.uk/big/wal/DEN/
There are also two Rootsweb mailing lists covering Denbighshire:
CLWYD and WLS-Denbighshire. Subscribe to each in the same way you
subscribed to the Powys list. The welcome message will provide you with the
address to send postings to.
I believe obtaining Edward ISAAC's (b.1851) marriage & birth certificates
should be your starting point (as well as locating him on all later census
returns). You didn't mention where you obtained his date of birth. His
marriage certificate will provide the name and occupation of his father and
his birth certificate will provide you with a certain maiden name of his
mother, as well as their residence at the time of the birth.
A check using
www.freebmd.org.uk for a marriage of Edward ISAAC and Mary
HAMER in the years immediately surrounding 1871 yielded this reference:
Sept. Qtr. 1871
Isaac Edward
Hamer Mary (listed on same Vol/Pg.)
District: Bolton
Vol. 8c, Pg. 455
Bolton Reg. District covers sub-districts listed here:
http://www.ukbmd.org.uk/genuki/reg/districts/bolton.html
Suggest you obtain this marriage certificate as a first step. Instructions
are here:
http://www.freebmd.org.uk/Certificates.html
There were no results fitting your Edward ISAAC in the 1881 Census for all
of England & Wales -- presume they had emigrated by this time? Since he was
married in Lancashire in 1871, it would be advantageous to locate him in the
1861 & 1871 Census returns and obtain any birth certificates of their
children born before they emigrated.
I was able to locate the parents, John ISAAC & Ruth, in 1881 -- note their
birthplaces (Ruth's should read: Llangwm) -- both parishes are in
Denbighshire. You may be able to connect with other ISAAC & ROBERTS family
researchers from the mailing lists and from joining the Clwyd Family History
Society.

The household next door appears to be their son and his family -- note
John's age -- if Edward was born in Denbighshire in 1850/51 and John was
born in Farnworth, Lancashire in 1857/58, that points to the migration to
Lancashire within that time period so you should be able to locate the
entire family in Farnsworth in the 1861 Census -- check the GENUKI pages for
Lancashire resources.

A check of the NorthWalesBMD Index at:
www.northwalesbmd.org.uk for 1849
through 1853 for "All Regions" yielded only 1 result in 1850 for an Edward
ISAAC, registered in the Sub-District of Llanfair Caereinion (Registers at
Welshpool, MGY), Reference LLANFAIR/05/78. According to the information on
the website, a birth in Llangadwaladr would fall under the Sub-District of
Llanrhaeadr-ym-Mochnant in the Llanfyllin Registration District (again,
these registers are held at Welshpool now). The site indicates the indexing
for this sub-district is complete for 1837-1950.
Another check of the NorthWalesBMD Index for the marriage of John ISAAC &
Ruth ROBERTS came up trumps:
Marriage 1849
ISAAC, John
ROBERTS, Ruth
Llangadwaladr, St Cadwaladr
Registers at Powys-Welshpool
Ref: CL25/1/9
You can obtain this certificate directly from the Supt. Registrar at
Welshpool. I would ask them to check their registers for the 1850 entry of
Edward to see if the parents' names match -- otherwise, I suppose they may
have registered his birth in Farnworth -- worth checking. The Lancashire
BMD website indicates they have not yet completed indexing Farnworth
(Subdistrict of Bolton) so you may have to use the GRO Indexes and order
directly from the GRO.
I checked the 1851 Census for Montgomeryshire and your ISAAC family is not
shown (the census was enumerated Sunday, March 30, 1851). You'll need to
look for the family in Denbighshire (probably Llangadwaladr) or in
Farnworth, LAN, in 1851 - perhaps someone on the other lists will have the
1851 Census or you can sign up for one of the pay-for sites.
Once you've obtained the marriage certificate for John ISAAC & Ruth ROBERTS,
you can then search for their parents' households in the 1851 & 1841 census
and also look for their deaths, monumental inscriptions, etc.
I hope this helps.
Kind regards,
Julie Preston
