Subject: Re: [POWYS] John Rowlands (Henry Stanley)
Henry Morton Stanley was born in Denbighshire to Elizabeth Parry. I
don't
know where his father John Rowlands came from. This is what I am trying to
find out. Henry was born in 1841. His mother in 1822 to Moses Parry. Jean
Stanley, Sir Henry Morton (1841-1904), explorer and journalist, was born on
28 January 1841 at Denbigh, where he was baptized as John Rowlands, the
illegitimate son of John Rowlands (c.1815-1854), a farmer, and Elizabeth
Parry (1822-1886), daughter of Moses Parry (d. 1846), a butcher and grazier.
Of his putative father little is known. His mother was to have four more
children before she married. Stanley spent most of his early years in the
care of his grandfather Moses. (Oxford Dictionary of National Biography)
