Hello Alun and List,Thank you for the response, however I am looking for information
before civil registration 1837. Most of the Nokes listed on the site you suggest are also
on the IGI. I had noticed a number of Nokes in the Welshpool, Newtown areas. I assume many
of these people migrated from neighboring English counties, as the name Nokes, and
it's variant spellings, was prevalent there. I was hoping actual publications of
registers for baptisms, such as ones available from the MONT Genealogical Soc. could help
me. Their website lists 32 baptism booklets. It's impossible to purchase all of the
booklets on the list in the hopes I find one name. And, as I live in the US I can't
visit sites to look for information in person. On the PA lists I belong to, people pool
resources to do volunteer lookups in various books they own, census records, etc and this
is what I was hoping for. I have joined several Welsh FHSs in the hopes of finding
information, but again, as I am not local and can't use on site resources, programs,
or bounce ideas off other researchers, and I really haven't found these to be much
help. I would appreciate any suggestions as to how else I might obtain information.
Listers are a great resource and local listers are the BEST!Thank you and regards, Tomi
Hello list, If there is anyone on the list owning a copy of one of the many MONT baptism
register booklets, would you please look for a baptism entry for Evan or E. Nokes sometime
between 1805 and 1815? All I have to go on is the 1841 Census listing MONT as his
birthplace. On various census records from 1841 to 1880 his birthdate ranges from 1800 to
1812. His sons were named Thomas Albert and Anthony, daughters Elizabeth, Ann and Mary. I
have his marriage in 1834 in MON and other family information after his immigration to
Pennsylvania.I am trying to find parents, birth, siblings, something about his origins,
perhaps in Montgomeryshire. Thank you for any assistance. Tomi> Message: 4> Date:
