I'm hoping that someone can suggest some alternative resources
for my
research. So far, I have used census records, Familyhistoryonline and a
bit of the IGI.
Our confusing ancestor was David Thomas, born c 1800 -1801. He married
Elisabeth Thomas in Llanfihangel in 1825. On the marriage, he was from
Llangynyw. Their only son, Robert Hughes Thomas was born in 1826. There
does not appear to be a Hughes on Elisabeth Thomas's side , so I imagine
that the Hughes came from David. David Thomas was a wheelwright and
farmer.
On various census records, he stated that he was from Llanfihangel,
Llanfyllin, Llanfair and Meifod. After his wife's death he remarried and
stated that his father was David Thomas, a carpenter.
After searching for his birth, I found a David Thomas born to David Thomas
and Jane Hughes in Llanfihangel in 1801. The parents lived at Bryn y
Gloigren, (which I can't find). This David Thomas Sr appears to be from
Llangynyw, and David and Jane may have had a daughter Anne, there in 1800.
Can anyone give me any tips on how to take this further. In particular,
how can I find David Thomas Sr's occupation.
Diane,
The registers of these parishes have been transcribed by the Montgomeryshire
Genealogical Society, and can be searched and accessed at
http://www.familyhistoryonline.net/
They will eventually also be published as booklets.
