Another topic that I'm always surprised doesn't come up more frequently
is
the social history aspect of our hobby.
It's all very well to chase names and we must all start here but there is
so
much more to add about life in our ancestor's times. My own family came
from
LlanbrynMair originally and it has been fascinating reading about that
parish down the ages and how life was conducted.
Another aspect so often forgotten is that of the homes that our ancestors
lived in. I have been quite astonished at how many still survive. During a
recent holiday I was able to visit a large number that I had no previous
knowledge of some as early as C15th. One or two would seem to have changed
very little.
I would be very interested to hear from anyone who has actually researched
an old family home and its history. There must be books to help with this
type of research and sources from which to gather information. Anyone tried?
Kind regards
David Stick
