Google confirms my thoughts that although Ewart is a surname it is also a
variant of Edward. It is not uncommon to use a maiden surname as a forename
of children/grandchildren.

can any lister confirm that the name i have from the 1851 census of
montgomeryshire which is EWART is a proper welsh name or is it a spelling
mistake for the name Edward?
