Hi
This is my first post.
Having at last discovered my Welsh roots (Granny said she was part Welsh back in the 1980s
just before she passed away)...
It has been a confusing journey so far.
Grannys surname was Davies
Her dad was William Davies
his dad was William Davies born 1840 in Banbury
Easy so far accept... When William Davies born 1840 married in 1862, he married under the
name of William Davies Evans, father staeted as Thomas Evans.
By means of census, I found him living as William Davies with his father Thomas Davies
born Builth Brecknock, Breccon abt 1896 (several census confirm this)
I now believe I have found Thomas Davies marriage details, however, he too adds the Evans
on his marriage details, marrying as Thomas Davies Evans to mary Ann Watkins in 1834 in
Warwick (there first two children were born there and all there children were baptised
with just the Davies surname).
I looked for any clue to my Thomas Davies/Evans born 1806c on the IGI and found a couple
of possibles
Thomas Davies 1808 Becon Mother called Margaret Jones
and Thomas Evan born 1808 Brecknock Brecon parents were Evan Jones and Margaret.
Are these likely to be the same person? I know there are errors on the IGI so I am
planning to go to Builth and see if I can trace my Thomas.
However, I do not know how the surnames work, why is Does the Evans surname appear and
disapear? Could it really be the a man with a Davies surname be the son of a Margaret
Jones? or a man called Thomas Evan really be the son of an Evan Jones?
Please can somebody help and advise me how to trace this line back further
many thanks
Deborah
