Why don't you all try asking Miss Richards at Powys CAO the clause number(s)in the DPA
(only 37 pages of it anyway) that she is using to close the school admission
registers...should be quite easy to quote shouldn't it?....see what reply you get!
Cousin Roger.

Thanks for your posting on the Powys Roots Web ! I'm not sure that I remember the
original posting, but that is by the by !
The Data Protection Act is one of the worst pieces of legislation ever to be passed, and
is used by far too many people hide behind and to avoid doing any work whatsoever.
To quote just two instances :- Some time ago, the car belonging to a friend of mine was
broken into. Since I did not have the number of her flat (we live in a block of them) I
asked for this. I was denied it - reason given "data protection act". Second
was when someone at Liverpool Airport asked at the information desk if his family had
checked in. This was refused; same reason ! Talk about crass stupidity !
However, the primary reason that I'm writing is to thank you for reminding me that
some valuable information can be obtained from school registers. Thanks for that.
Yours
W T Williams
