Are you sure it's not Ty mawr (great house) ? Ty mawr as a name is quite common. I
must admit I've never heard of Tre-mawr

Subject: [POWYS] Place name help - 'tremawr', Brecon
Hello listers
Is anybody familiar with a place called 'tremawr' in Brecon? I have found a
ouple of suggestions as to what the word might mean (tre =
omestead/hamlet/town; mawr = great/big) but I haven't managed to find any
lues as to where it was/is.
I came across it in researching the children of my 3x great grandparents
William ROSSER and Rachel WALTERS, both of Swansea, GLA) as a possible
lace of death of their eldest child Susannah. So far I have no idea why she
ould have died in BRE despite having lived most of her life in Swansea, GLA
nd I am trying to find out some extra clues before I order the death
ertificate.
Susannah ROSSER (b. 23 Jun 1829, Swansea, GLA) married Joseph HARRIS,
ariner (cir 1850?). While I have yet to find it on any official record, in
ater years Susannah referred to herself as Susan and (like some of her
ther siblings) used her mother's maiden name (Walters) as a middle name.
he claims (in a letter written to one of her nephews) to have had 11
hildren, with only 4 still living in 1912.
I have come across the following snippets that lead me to believe that she
ied in BRE:
[From 'The Cambrian Index Online'
ttp://www.swansea.gov.uk/index.cfm?Articleid=5673 ]
ournal Catlogue Index Index Description Journal Date Text
outh Wales Daily Post C10 Deaths, Death Notices 07 October 1916 October
at Tremawr,Brecon, Susannah widow of late Joseph HARRIS, aged 88.

eaths Dec 1916 HARRIS Susannah W 87 Crickhowell 11b/136
Any help would be greatly apprectiated!
