Why do you assume that N is for North, new would be more logical as in New
Radnor.

Hi Tom.
Yes the N would stand for North. As Radnorshire is half way between North
&
South Wales it can be recorded as either.
Do you have an age for gggWWW?
As it may be possible to find him in the Parish Registers being Baptised.

Dear John and other listeners:
My g-g-grandfather, William Wade Williams, came to the US sometime in the
1830's or early 1840's. On several US Census reports, he lists his place
of
birth as "Radnor, N Wales." I am assuming that the "N" stands for
North,
as
in North Wales. Is this correct, or does the "N" have some other
significance? Family lore has it that he was from Old Radnor. Is Old
Radnor
known locally as being in North Wales? I have looked at maps but I am
unfamiliar with local designations.
Thanks in advance for any help you can give me.

Dear Listers,
This week's Retrospectives, just uploaded onto my website, are:
1. A selection of buildings in the town of Merthyr Tydfil, county of
Glamorgan (seven pictures). This feature was first shown on 'Images of
Wales' in June 1998.
2. Horses in the Welsh landscape, photographed in various parts of
Breconshire, Glamorgan and Pembrokeshire (seven pictures). This feature
was first shown on 'Images of Wales' in June 1998.
As usual, these webpages will be on display on my website for one week.
'Retrospective Images of Wales' is at

After viewing the Retrospectives, please explore my 'Webpage Archive' and
make your own Retrospective requests.
Kind regards,
John
