Hi Angie,
Most farms in RAD pre 1945 were run by tenants, I knew many around us in
the Newbridge on Wye area next to BRE, and Powys Archives here must have the
Estate records of the most farms from Rent Records, and some Sales and
Lettings,etc.
Rents were paid on Quarter Days, with late 1800 era photos of that, and the
tenants free lunches then - in some local history books on the main towns,
like New Radnor, Knighton, Rhayader and Llandrindod Wells - Rock Park
Hotel - now sadly gone.
Have you got the books, Radnorshire by W H HOWSE, and also one by my old
English Master Mr H L V FLETCHER, who also wrote two books on the Wye Valley,
and Herefordshire, and also a Mr PEEL ditto, and on Shropshire? All post
1945. And one on RADNORSHIRE by the Rev Jonathon Williams MA, 1754 -1829.
Howse is very good on people and places, with a very good Index of main
Families and persons in RADS.
A book by my old Geography Master Mr R BC Oliver - The SQUIRES of Penybont
Hall is very good on familes there, and best on the Thousands of Acres
Enclosed by the local MP and Mr Severn from Penybont Hall and Hotel - and the
many RADS Commons at Knighton to Penybont, etc, after 1840 - So very bad
for the poor then.....
With Best Wishes, Dennis in RADS, Powys.
