Dear Margaret,
Well said. I endorse every word you say about the value of the work done by
volunteer teams under the auspices of local and family history groups.
I, too, am a member of my local (Powys) FHS and two other societies relevant
to my own family history research in the Midlands and the Isle of Man.
I encourage everyone to support the work of the societies which cover their
areas of interest.
Kind regards,
John

Hi John,
Thanks. The CDs produced by the Powys FHS are an excellent way of
searching the censuses and I have found them to be very accurate due to the
transcribers having some connection to the county and are also interested in
family history research. These unsung volunteers give their time for the
benefit of researchers who find it difficult to get the the National Library
of Wales, the Powys Archives and churchyards. Their work has allowed the
society to produce a wide range of items including Parish Records and
Monumental Inscriptions. A full list of CDs and booklets can be found on
http://www.parishchest.com/
or in the Cronicl Powys which members get free three times a year when they
join the Powys Family History Society.
Montgomeryshire Genealogical Society also produces excellent Census CDs and
booklets for censuses, Memorial Inscriptions and Parish Registers. A full
list is shown on
http://home.freeuk.net/montgensoc/
or in the Record which is sent free to members of the society three times a
year.
I am a member of both societies and am very grateful to everyone involved in
the compilation of the information for the CDs and booklets.
Regards,
Margaret Harvey
