Hi Linda,
With regard to Price. My 4 x gt grandfather Evan Maddy married an Ann Price
not too far away from Llangattock at Llanigon, Brecs in 1766. I have a
suspicion that he married another sister in 1759/60 at the same place. Her
name was Margaret (Peggy) Price. I have never found a record of her death
but it seemed strange that an Evan Maddy married in Llanigon twice in 6
years and to a Margaret Price and an Ann Price. Ann is buried Ann Maddy in
Glasbury St Peters Churchyard with Evan but as I have said I have no record
of Margaret.
I don't know whether this may have anything to do with your Prices but just
thought I would put in my thoughts.
I have to say that the Prices seem to follow our family line along as there
were several witnesses of weddings who were Prices and some that the Maddys
seem to have done business with over the years.
Best wishes,
Sue in Suffolk

Subject: [POWYS] James Price, Carpenter, Llangattock, Breconshire
Dear Listers
Having made so much progress researching my father's family and arriving at
a point where I now know for certain that my great grandfather James Price
(junior) was born at Llangattock to James Price (senior), House Carpenter
and Martha James daughter of Lewis James and Ann nee Rumsey, (they lived at
Penffawyddog farmhouse) - I have discovered distant relatives along the way.
Our problem is how to continue on the Price trail. It appears from the
census of 1841 that James Price senior was born outside the county and we
have no idea how to research this further.
I did wonder what would bring a house carpenter to Llangattock if it was not
to set up home. I believe the canal would have been completed before he was
born
He was living at Legar in 1841 but by the 1851 census he had died of small
pox (9.11.1847) at Aberdare, aged 35 leaving Martha with four young
children.
The 1841 census states
James Price born around 1812-1813 outside county
Martha Price born around 1816-1817 Breconshire
William Price aged 1
(My great grandfather James was not born until 1843)
If anyone can suggest where we could start looking - for instance would
there be records kept of staff employed - possibly working at Llangattock
Park for example. Up until now everything has been researched through
Ancestry.co. and Free BMD plus visits to Llangattock church. I am still very
much a novice when it comes to family history research techniques.
Thank you for taking the time to read this message
Regards
Linda
