Hi (sorry you didn't give your name)
I know how frustrating it can be and also how these Hunkins get about.
I started family research way back believing our ancestors (or part) were Hunkins from
Fowey.? This is
what we were always told.? My father's middle name is even Hunkin.? However, after
research
I found that we only have a link of sorts to the Hunkins of Devon/Cornwall because my
ancestor first
married a John Hunkin, brother of James and I think his father was Samuel, but the two
illigitimate daughters,
the youngest one being my great grandmother, had no relation to the Hunkins other their
mother first
married John Hunkin and had 3 children.
Its amazing how eventually, after some patience, and you need a lot in this, you will find
her!
Do you think she may have moved to be near a relative of her mother?
Regards
Helen

Subject: [POWYS] Your Stories--HUNKIN
Helen,
On the Glamorgan list you asked for stories of success and not.
In the area where my ancestors were, I have to watch to be sure
to include nearby areas across "borders" at the time they lived. For
example, William Meredith was born in 1806 in Herefordshire to James
MEREDITH and Elizabeth PITT. He had two daughters, apparently one by his
wife Mary and one by his wife Elizabeth. It appears he worked as a smith
in Hay, Breconshire, Wales. William died in 1836 and was buried at St.
Michaels, Clyro, Radnorshire, Wales. The two girls seem to be orphaned
by time of the 1841 census for Hay, Breconshire and are with individuals
that I have no idea of how they are related to them. William MEREDITH
was the eldest of nine children. The middle son, David MEREDITH, was
born about 1816 in Monmouthshire, while the rest were born in
Herefordshire (most in Clodock Parish).
The eldest daughter Juliana Pitt MEREDITH was christened
(baptized) 27 April 1831 in Hay, Breconshire, Wales. On the 1841 census
she was Julia MEREDITH, age 10. The 1851 census shows her age 19, Julia
MEREDITH, a house servant, in Marazion, Cornwall, England. She was
married to William John HUNKIN later in 1851 in Marazion, Cornwall,
England. From the information I have gathered on their children, some
went to South Africa and remained there until their death. Juliana Pitt
MEREDITH HUNKIN died in 1907 in Marizion, Cornwall, England. She also
had a daughter that was named Juliana Pitt HUNKIN.
The younger daughter Caroline Pitt MEREDITH was christened
(baptized) 12 March 1833 in Hay, Breconshire, Wales. It appears to be
her as Caroline MEREDITH, age 8, on the 1841 census in Hay, Breconshire.
She might be the Caroline MEREDITH, age 18 working as a house servant in
Clyro, Radnorshire, Wales on the 1851 census. I have found no more on
her, but have found another individual by the same name. Would like to
find out what happened to this younger daughter after 1851 census.
