Identical twins have the same DNA at birth. My understanding is that an autosomal DNA
(not sex-linked) allele has a one-in-four chance of being expressed and you inherit one
allele from each of your parents. Men will have the same male-linked nuclear DNA as their
fathers, and all children will have the same female-linked mitochondrial DNA as their
mothers. So it would be pretty unlikely for siblings to have identical autosomal DNA, but
they will all have the same mitochondrial DNA from their mother and boys Will have the
same nuclear DNA as their father. I am not an expert in this area, but that is how I have
interpreted it (after researching the information used to identify Richard III), and
welcome any correction if I am in error

Whilst I have considered doing my DNA, I haven't because I am innately suspicious of
new things.
Peter Calver of Lost Cousins reported in his latest newsletter that he was astounded to
learn that according to Ancestry his brother is 20% Irish as he is completely unaware of
any Irish connection. He then uploaded those results to FTDNA and they came up with him
being 40% Scandinavian, 40% British Isles (including Ireland) and 20% Southern Europe,
however for Peter himself they had an entirely different mix despite the fact that they
are full brothers.
On this basis I don't think I will bother.

I posted a message on a ROOTSWEB list but just had a reply from someone who seems a very
keen Ancestry supporter (as often happens!).
I might see if there are any DNA experts around there who can give a better answer.
Someone suggested that uploading the raw data to other sites can get a more detailed
analysis.

I am not sure they can make that level of distinction between Irish verses Welch Celtic
verses Gaelic Scotland, another variant of the Celtic heritage, with DNA at this point.
Maybe a DNA expert on this list can answer this question.
