My daughter-in-law, a nurse, told me that twins are the only ones in the family who will
have the same DNA.

Whilst I have considered doing my DNA, I haven't because I am innately suspicious of
new things.
Peter Calver of Lost Cousins reported in his latest newsletter that he was astounded to
learn that according to Ancestry his brother is 20% Irish as he is completely unaware of
any Irish connection. He then uploaded those results to FTDNA and they came up with him
being 40% Scandinavian, 40% British Isles (including Ireland) and 20% Southern Europe,
however for Peter himself they had an entirely different mix despite the fact that they
are full brothers.
On this basis I don't think I will bother.

I posted a message on a ROOTSWEB list but just had a reply from someone who seems a very
keen Ancestry supporter (as often happens!).
I might see if there are any DNA experts around there who can give a better answer.
Someone suggested that uploading the raw data to other sites can get a more detailed
analysis.

I am not sure they can make that level of distinction between Irish verses Welch Celtic
verses Gaelic Scotland, another variant of the Celtic heritage, with DNA at this point.
Maybe a DNA expert on this list can answer this question.

Hi Martin.
Snap. My results from Amazon say I’m 66% Irish and no mention of Wales, yet I was born in
Wales and although my paternal forbears were Irish (and Scots), on the maternal side I’m
deeply Welsh. Is this discrimination? I certainly think it’s insulting to the Welsh
people.

I had the results of my Ancestry DNA test this morning.
Annoyingly they seem to class Welsh as Irish! I am half Welsh but
according to Ancestry I am 64% Irish.
I would have thought they could find a better description for what
probably also includes Gaelic Scotland. I can imagine someone getting
their results in the USA and wasting a lot of time looking for an Irish connection.
