Just a reminder that this coming Tuesday (21st June) is our last meeting/talk of this
season at The Old Chapel Community Centre, Cross Houses, Nr Shrewsbury SY5 6JH, 7pm, free
parking. Non-Members Welcome.
Subject - "John Rhydderch (1675-1735): a Welshman in Shrewsbury"
Speaker - Stephen Jones
John Rhydderch was an early 18th century Shrewsbury printer and much else besides:
antiquary, astrologer, genealogist, grammarian, lexicographer, poet, translator, and, it
has been claimed, musician, as well as one of those who brought the eisteddfod into the
modern era. His own ancestry presents a fascinating exercise in genealogical research. The
talk takes a close look at his birth and parentage, and goes on to discuss his wider
pedigree. It takes in a general look at his time in Shrewsbury, and ends with an
interesting incident from his life.
General Meeting Info: we open at about 7 and the talks start at 7:30, we have a friendly
atmosphere, help desk, books, maps and CDs for sale, and after the speaker you can get a
tea or a coffee - see our web-site for more info.
