Dear Listers,
I've just been browsing through an authoritative new (to me) book on UK
censuses:
"Census - The Expert Guide" by Christian and Annal, The National Archives,
Kew, 2008; ISBN 978-1-905615-34-6
Chapter headings include:
1 The Victorian censuses (1841-1901)
2 The 1911 census
3 Why can't I find my ancestors?
4 The census online
5 Online search techniques
6 Free census indexes online
7 Ancestry
8 Findmypast
9 TheGenealogist & RootsUK
10 Genes Reunited & 1901censusonline
11 Origins
12 ScotlandsPeople
13 1911 census online
14 The websites compared
15 The Irish census
16 The censuses on CD-ROM
17 Offline finding aids
Although it is described as an 'Expert Guide', my first dip into the book
suggests it will also prove extremely valuable to newcomers to family
history. It is certainly bang up-to-date.
The book is a softback, 262 pages, and the marked price is £14.99, although
retailers such as Amazon.co.uk will no doubt supply it more cheaply.
You can find out more about this book at

Kind regards,
John
