I accessed the National Library of Wales website
http://cat.llgc.org.uk/probate
and discovered John Wilson, probate 1709. I found however that I need a
readers' ticket to be able to see the documents on screen
All the other early John Wilson wills in the index appear to be still accessible on
screen. Maybe there is a problem with this one particular item (e.g. a badly faded or
damaged document which cannot be reproduced satisfactorily - hence not viewable online).
The link for this item seems to imply that it can only be seen within the NLW searchroom.
and am extremely disappointed to discover that I can only have one if
I live in Wales which I
don't.
Not true - I've got an NLW ticket and I don't live in Wales. But you might well
need to apply to the library in person, rather than by post (which won't make much
practical difference if the item is in any case only viewable within the library).
I have often used this website and all the probate records I have
found previously I could access without one so I don't know what the
difference is.
You could use the email link to ask the staff whether my guess (damaged document?) is
correct or whether there is some other explanation.
