Hi Listers
I'm brand new to the List though not to other County lists, and I'm just
getting into my Welsh heritage. All very exciting stuff.
Big problem, my maternal grandparents were called Jones! One from
Montgomeryshire and the other from Manchester.
However, I have these grandparents nailed down nicely and have some details
of one of my Great Grandfathers, by name William Peter Jones. The GRO Index
tells me he was registered 1Q1846 in Newtown, Montgomeryshire and he was
born at Vrongreen in the Parish of Llanllugan to Thomas and Sarah Jones.
They had 5 sons and 4 daughters about whom I have no knowledge. Can anyone
tell me if the Parish Register is available in the LDS films or if the
register has been transcribed? If neither how can I get access to the
details I need?
My second question concerns my Grand Uncle William Bowen Jones, William
Peter Jones' son by his second marriage. He was born in 1879, I believe. Why
believe? Well, he died in 1944 and was 65.
The problem is that the GRO Index shows two of that name in that year. One
in Swansea, the other in Llandilofaur. Neither are parishes with any
connection to the family. So I'm stumped! Has anyone seen him in a parish
register in Montgomeryshire. He will most likely be in the
Newtown/Montgomery area since his father was farming at The Pant in the
Parish of Llanllchaiarn until 1879 when he moved to Rockley near
Churchstoke?
I would be most grateful for some help in this new direction for my
research.
Regards
Dave
