I'm researching the KYFFIN family name, and am looking for any
information
regarding KYFFINS anywhere... I understand that the Kyffin name
originated
in Montgomeryshire. Is it a common name? Is it found anywhere else in
Wales?
Is there a history with the name? I'm pretty much at a dead end
in Canada
so
I hope you folks came help me. Thanks!
Hello Dave,
Cannot help re Montgomeryshire but we (Clwyd FHS) have recently been
transcribing the parish registers of Eglwysfach, Llanddoget and Llanrwst,
three parishes in the Conwy valley. They were once in the old Denbighshire
but became part of Gwynedd when that new county was formed in 1974. Kyffin
features strongly there as the family name of one of the most important
families thereabouts in the seventeenth century. They lived at a mansion,
formerly an Abbey, called Maenan.
Cheers
