Dear listers all,
I thought it might be of interest to those who are finding patrynomics
difficult, to see how I found some of my ancestors some years ago.
I knew that Cadwalladr ROBERTS married Ellin RICHARD in 1805 at Llanddwywe,
Merionethshire. I found her baptism in the BT's in 1782 the daughter of
Richard GRIFFITH and Jane EVAN. Having found Ellen it was an easy matter for
this particular family to find all her siblings from 1778-1796 (10 children)
Then I found the marriage of Jane EVAN and Richard GRIFFITH in 1776
The next step was to look for Jane EVAN being baptized in 1756 daughter of
Evan JONES and Ellin THOMAS. A sister of Jane EVAN was baptized in 1754.
Evan JONES and Ellin THOMAS were married in 1752
I found Richard GRIFFITH baptized in 1755 and his brother Griffith in 1752,
both sons of Griffith WILLIAM and Elizabeth.
Fortunately, all these events took place in the same parish. But, as is
shown, I came to a stop with the marriage of Griffith WILLIAM and Elizabeth, I
don't even know her parents names. This is probably due to the fact (yet to
be proved), that she came from another parish, and married there. Yet another
puzzle to solve.
I hope this may help others try to understand the patrynomic system. All the
names have some signicicance.
Best wishes,
Maureen Jenkins
