Hi: Have you tried looking in your deleted items file
on your email. If it is not flagged to clear every time
you log off email you may find the deleted email there.
The following is an update of a piece in 'Cronicl Powys' #25 (Aug
98).
- ----------------------------------
Lost that POWYS-L email message? Most people are amazed at what is
still stored on their hard drive even after emptying the email
'Deleted Items' folder!
All your inbox/outbox/sent/deleted (and contents of email folders
you set up) are probably still there end-to-end in huge text files.
Try adding up the number of Mb occupied - how does 60Mb (compacted)
sound?
For WIN95/Internet Mail: Files are in the
<Program Files\Internet Mail & News\Default User\Mail> folder.
Select MS 'Wordpad' to open the MBX files.
Win95/Word97/Outlook Express: Files are in the
<Windows\ApplicationData\Microsoft\Outlook Express\Mail> folder.
Select MS 'Wordpad' to open the MBX files.
Using 'Edit', 'Find', you can use a keyword, name or email address
to
locate the message of your choice amongst the jumble of header data.
It's saved my bacon a few times!
You can copy messages and paste them into a WP but *don't* try
cutting out messages (as they link with an index file - IDX),
otherwise a 'corrupted file' message will appear, it won't open
again (trust me!) and all your emails in that folder will have
disappeared.
BTW - have you 'compacted' your email files recently?
Right-click on Start menu - select 'Explore'
Then go to 'File', 'Folder',
Select 'Compact all Folders'.
Anyway - if you're still stuck you have another chance as Malcolm's
got recent POWYS-L
messages archived on Rootsweb.
