John Ball,
I think it's more likely Vrann is an attempted phonetic spelling
of
"Fron". My "Gazetteer of Welsh Place-names" (ISBN 0-7083-1038-9) has
the
entry:
Fron, Brymbo, Denbighshire - grid reference SJ 2952
which places it about 2.5 miles NW of the centre of Wrexham.
>I am trying to pin down the placename Vrann.
>The information for this placename came from a 1857 birth
certificate in
>Victoria, Australia. The information was given by a friend of the
parents,
>not the parents. It is not known for certain if the friend was
Welsh
>speaking but the likelyhood is that the friend was.
>The certificate states that Evan Evans was born "Vrann".
>He was born in Montgomeryshire, wherein as yet unknown. However
he
>married Wrexahm 1856 at which time he stated he was living Rhos.
>Presumably Rhosllannerchrugog.
Thank you for your reply.
Regards, Peter Evans
