Hi there
I was interested to read your long reply on fonts. I see you've gone into
this aspect in some depth including investing in Fontographer. As you
didn't mention PopChar I assume you haven't got this superb little utility.
PopChar is a very useful tiny (36K), freeware control panel. When you click
on its 'hotspot' on the screen a window opens at the top of the screen
displaying all the visible characters out of the 256 extended ASCII
characters of the particular font in use including, of course, the Symbol,
Zapf Dingbats, Wingdings fonts, if selected.
When you click on the selected character it appears at the insertion point
in your document and the window disappears. Alternatively if you click on
the "More..." which appears when you take the cursor across to the right of
the window a second mode of operation becomes apparent.
I've had it installed on my faithful old Classic II (now passed on to my
daughter) since 1993 and I now have it installed on my G3.
I don't know if its still available on the big software archives such as
InfoMac etc. but if you're interested I could send it as an attachment. BTW
you click on the control panel after installation to configure its few
settings.
