My GGGrandfather Richard Jones was born in Montgomeryshire about 1815.
His
>parents were Richard Jones & Mary??. Richard Jr's death certificate
states >Richard Sr was a 'Miller'.
Maybe someone out there could shed some light on what kind of mills would
there >have been in Montgomeryshire in the 1800s.
Richard my GGgrandfather was a 'sawyer' so maybe there could have been
timber >mills?
Any clues whatsoever would be most helpful, I still haven't been able to
find any info on Richard & Mary.
Bye for now

Hi Noelene
I should imagine that most mills in Montgomeryshire in the 1800s would be
water-mills.
I can provide you with a list of place-names (with grid references) from
the western half of Montgomeryshire with the word 'mill' or
'melin/felin'(Welsh for mill) in the name.
It may be worth scanning a directory (such as Kelly' or Pigot's) which
covers Montgomeryshire for the occupation of 'miller'.
You could try contacting the Powys County Archives Office, Llandrindod
Wells to see if they have anything on the location of 19th century mills in
Montgomeryshire.
