Hello all,
Stephen Jones of the MGS has kindly sent me the text of two very brief death
notices (of my 4xggrandparents) from the "Eurgrawn Wesleyaidd" -- as you can
see (below), they're in Welsh and I'm totally "Welsh-illiterate". I
would
so appreciate a translation of these, if anyone can manage it (via the list
so others won't duplicate the effort), please.
Additionally, Stephen sent me a photocopy of a lengthy obit article on
Maurice Davies of the Cyffiau, Trefeglwys, MGY, who apparently emigrated to
America. I thought others might also be interested in it, as other people
are mentioned, so if there's anyone willing to tackle it, please let me know
and I'll post the Welsh version. (I've no idea if I'm related to Maurice
Davies, but have worked many hours trying to unravel these Trefeglwys
Davies, looking for clues!)
Mrs. Humphreys' notice:
"Bu farw, Mawrth 1af, 1832, yn dra dirybudd, Mrs. Humphreys, o'r dafarn,
Trefeglwys, sir Drefaldwyn."
Thomas Humphreys' notice:
"Marwolaeth. - Medi 19eg, 1831, y bu farw Mr. Thomas Humphreys, tafarnwr,
Trefeglwys, yn dra byrbwyll. Nid oedd neb yn fwy caredig nag ef at achos y
Wesleyaid yng Nghymru. Bu ei dy yn agored i'r pregethwry yn fwy nag ugain
mlynedd; a bydd ei garedigrwydd mewn cof tra y pery y rhai oedd yn ei
adnabod. Yr oedd ef dan deimladau hynod am Dduw a'i enaid yn ei ddyddiau
olaf."
Hope to hear from someone!
Thanks and best regards,
Julie Preston
