-Just to add fuel to fire, John Speed, the famous
British cartographer, in the map he executed in 1610
shows this town just within the borders of
Denbighshire. On his map he spells it Llanyader
Amoughhnant.
Good hunting y'all.

Hello John (and Janaya),
Not wishing to start a border dispute <g> - but, for
family history
purposes, Llanrhaeadr-ym-Mochnant is usually
considered to have been
in pre-1974 Denbighshire.
In fact, it was partly in Montgomeryshire and partly
in Denbighshire;
but the parish church was in Denbighshire. The
parish registers and
various other records have therefore been deposited
in the
Denbighshire Record Office at Ruthin.
When civil registration began in 1837, Llanrhaeadr
ym Mochnant was
included in the Llanrhaeadr sub-district of the
Llanfyllin
Registration District - and the parish of Llanfyllin
was entirely
within Montgomeryshire. It all adds to the
confusion!
