The NW BMD shows the marriage of William Daniell and Mary Thomas as a Civil
marriage in 1846 at Welshpool.
The designation therein of Civil Marriage does not necessarily mean a
Registry Office Wedding. It means that it was not celebrated in a Church of
England (Parish) church, where the priest is licensed to marry folk. In fact
it was likely to have been conducted, like my great grandfather's wedding,
"according to the Rites and Ceremonies of the Welsh Presbyterians (or other
denomination) by Licence by me John Davies, Minister"
and countersigned by the Registrar who was there present with his book.
I am confident that your Minister was married in a Congregational chapel in
Welshpool, with Registrar present.
