Good morning
Could sks please look up Benjamin Corfield who was born (taken from
Census)
in Llanllwchaiarn circa 1845-1848. He emigrated to Canada in the
early
1900's and last week a Corfield descendant contact me who knew
nothing about
any Corfield's in England. You can imagine how much information is
flying
back and forth through cyber space now. The lady has sent me a
photograph
of Ben and his wife Catherine Gravestone which says 1845-1919
and although I haven't found his birth I deduced from Censuses that
he was
born abt 1848.
Benjamin Corfield's parents were Benjamin and Adeliza nee Higgs.
I would be most grateful to the list if you can help.
Best wishes
Shirley (Frost)

Hi Shirley
There seem to be two births for a Benjamin Corfield in the period you
mention, both of whom appear to have had a wife named Catherine.
They are:
DISTRICT VOL.
PAGE
SEP 1845 Benjamin Corfield Knighton 26 240
DEC 1847 Benjamin Corfield Atcham 18 17
The two marriages are:
SEP 1872 Benjamin Corfield Forden 11b 293
married Catherine Hughes
DEC 1872 Benjamin Corfield Clun 6a 1141
married catherine Corfield
It would be worth contacting the local registration offices
concerned first,
to check the name of Benjamin's father, in order to determine which
is the
correct marriage before purchasing a certificate.
The Forden registration district seems to have been transferred
first to
Welshpool and now to the Powys Register Office:

http://www.powys.gov.uk/index.php?id=5528&L=0
Tel: 01597 826782 e-mail: registrars(a)powys.gov.uk
The Clun registration district registers are now held by the
Shropshire

Even if the family home was at Llanllwchaiarn the birth could have
taken
place at a relative's or friend's house. Knighton records now come
under
Powys (see above) and Atcham under Shropshire (see above).
I hope this information helps!

Hello Clive
Thank you very much indeed I can follow that up now after I have
looked
where both places are on a map.
The marriage is Benjamin Corfield to Catherine Hughes in Forden.
Many thanks also for the Registration details.
Is Emily Margaret Gardner on your tree by any chance?
Best wishes

Shirley, I have just found an Edward Corfield baptised 6th April
1842 in Llanllwchaiarn. His parents were Benjamin Corfield and
Adeliza.
This was in the Parish Register collections of Findmypast.
Does this help you?
Ann.
Father (Benjamin) was a labourer and dwelling place was? Glansufna.

Hi Shirley
Thanks for your reply.
Given the Forden marriage is the correct one, then I suspect the
Knighton
birth will probably be your Benjamin Corfield.
I haven't yet linked the Gardeners with the Gardners - so I'm not
sure about
Emily Margaret Gardner. In the 19th century my Gardener ancestors were
living between Gravesend and Chatham and on the Hoo Peninsula, not
far from
the Isle of Grain, in Kent - Charles Dickens country! However, when
I was at
school in Harrogate, Yorkshire, I did have a friend called Andrew
Gardner,
but I have no idea where he is now or whether his family is
connected with
Emily. Perhaps?
Does your family have any connection with the John Frost family from
Newport, Monmouthshire, and Horfield, Bristol - the 19th century
Chartist
leader?
Best wishes
Clive
