Thanks for the link to the John Speed maps Hilary. They are beautiful and it is
fascinating to look at them. It's interesting to look at the different spellings too
even though most place names are easily recognised.

Subject: [POWYS] Breconshire: John Speed Map 1611/12
Hi All,
I would recommend the John Speed Maps of 1611/12 to anyone who is interested
to see the counties and major town within those counties, during the early
17th century.
The Brecknockshire Map for instance, with the town map for Brecon, is
fantastic. A visitor to Brecon town could still use this map to get around
quite easily.
Thanks to a posting on Devon l, I now learn that all of Speed's County with
town maps are available online from Cambridge University library at
http://www.lib.cam.ac.uk/deptserv/maps/speed.html .
