The following "stray" PCC will may be of interest to researchers into the
Davies family of Trefeglwys, Llanwnog and Carno.
Abstract of the will of:
Maurice Davies of Charles Street, Parrs Place, Goswell Road in the parish of
St Luke, Middlesex, and late of Tabernacle Square, St Leonard Shoreditch,
Middlesex, Grocer.

but now at school in ?Essex Place, Gravesend, Kent all residue etc after my
debts paid.
Goods to be sold, except items that said dau selects for her own use, and
proceeds to be placed in purchasing stock in the three per cents consols in
the names of trustees hereinafter mentioned. Interest towards maintenance of

From the age of 15 to 21 she is to receive an annuity of £8.
When she is 21, the whole property to be placed in the three per cents

If she dies before the age of 25 and unmarried, then the whole property is

Carno, Montgomeryshire and her heirs.
If daughter is married and leaves no heirs, in that case, said niece Anne is
to receive £200 and no more, with remainder to daughter at her own disposal.

of Upper White Cross Street, St Lukes, Middlesex, grocer, Trustees and
Executors.

Proved 27 June 1840 by Rowland Thomas (right reserved to Roger Goodwin etc.)
--------
Maurice's daughter Mary Ann was baptised 22 Jun 1828 at St Leonard
Shoreditch, dau of Maurice Davies of Tabernacle Square, Grocer, and
Catherine.
Maurice himself evidently returned to Carno where he was buried 26 Feb 1840
of Castle, Carno, aged 71. I make him Maurice Davies (1768-1840) son of
Maurice and Ann Evans. His brother Zacharias (1775-1841) named him a trustee
in his own will, but in the event Maurice died before Zacharias. The niece
Anne Davies mentioned in the will was the great grandmother of Morris
Llewellyn Davies, aka Murray the Hump, Al Capone's number 2.
This family is evidently related to the Davieses of Trefeglwys and Llanwnog
who feature especially the men's names of Maurice, Zacharias and Matthew. I
have not yet established the link back from the Carno family to the
Trefeglwys and Llanwnog ones.
