I have looked thru old Ohio newspapers. People who had strays wander into
their farm, had to advertise the description of the animal for 3 weeks, then
someone had to appraise the animal if the "new found owner" wanted to keep
it. I found my ancestor putting several ads in the paper for this purpose.
It was kind of interesting to see.

In Kentucky, strays are animals that have gotten away from their
owners
and have "strayed" onto someone else's property.

Can someone please tell me what exactly are Strays? I often see lists
mentioning these, and would love to know what they are and whether I could
make use of them. You will gather that although a keen family researcher I
am
not too sure of all the terms and resources available.
Best wishes to all Elsbeth Pears.
