It really is very easy to use once you have the hang of it.
Open the program and in the first window select the line indicating the 1881
British Census Index and double click on it. This will bring up the census
index and a sub window in which to fill in the details of your search name.
You will use the INDEX to list all of the people with the same name but
giving all the constraints you can such as birth date and county and census
enumeration district. If you don't know it just means you may have a long
search.
When you have selected a likely candidate in the index window, go to the
search at the menu bar and click on it. A drop down will include locate
individual. Click on it and a window will appear telling you which of the
British Census discs to put in your drive. Withdraw the original index disc
and substitute the one advised in the window and up will come the person you
selected. If it isn't the right person go to search again and select
individual and you will get another sub window to put in your request data
again. This time you will get all the people in that region with that name.
Your on your way then. Remember use the Index to list and then use the
region to find the details.
A simplified explanation but I hope you will be able to find what you need.

Subject: 1881 LDS CD help
Hi All
I am the proud owner of the 1881 LDS CD full set (25 CD's) but having a few
problems, can anyone help please as I am a bit disappointed. The setup
instructions appear 'poor' (to someone like me) and can anyone give me some
advice as follows. I have used the electronic manual but it does not help.
I
know from all the assistance with my requested searches before from
this
forum that their must be some clever persons out there who can please give
me some advice. Thanks.
1. After installing the viewer, do I install the disk 1 (only) of all
the
CD's using the 'add resourse' including the National Index
(i.e) I do not
install any of the disk 2', 3 etc ?.
2. When I am searching for example by region, when I change the CD
region
to another an on screen message keeps asking for the previous region
CD no
matter which order I attempt to put the CD in first or change the screen
region area. If I click cancel it boots me completely out of the programme
and then on restarting it lets me have the new CD region I requested.
3. Can one search on street names. I have to find a road by putting in a
common name like Jones in a region then search through each name until I
hopefully come up with the street I want and then click neighbours to find
who was living at a particular address. Is this the only way.
4. When do I use the National Index CD's, I have not been requested to
insert one of these CD's in all my hours of searching.
5. Any other advice You can give.
Thanks for any help in anticipation.
