I consider myself fortunate to have found over the holidays in a cardboard box
(undisturbed for several years) two well-known books on Llanidloes - E Horsfall
Turner's 1908 "Municipal History of Llanidloes" and ER Morris' 1993
"Llanidloes Town and Parish". The former is most noteworthy for its accounts of
mayors and other civic officials of the town since earliest times, and photographs of
these from the mid nineteenth century (reproductions of paintings of earlier ones). The
second one has a lot of interesting old photographs on a number of themes.
If anyone has a specific enquiry which they feel might be helped by one of these books,
then I would be happy to help. I have read recently that these are difficult to come by
(and I'm not selling...).
The Horsfall Turner is important to me - and I believe to future generations of local
second-hand booksellers! - as it was presented by the Baptist chapel as a prize for
regular Sunday School attendance.
