Subject: [POWYS] Records of Clergymen
I haven't been active on this list for some time, but I have been
lurking
about in the background. Now I'm back to my Welsh ancestry after having
been working in other parts of the forest.
I seem to remember that there is a website where you can find information
about Welsh clergymen in the 17th-18th centuries. It gave a list of them,
where they were educated and where they served. Is there such a site? If
so, where is it? I am particularly interested in David Richard who may
have served in Llansannor, Glamorgan, around 1750. Any suggestions will
be appreciated.
http://eagle.cch.kcl.ac.uk:8080/cce/ (Church of England, but not yet much
Welsh coverage).
The Surman index has already been mentioned, although this is for
nonconformist clergy (mainly Congregational/Independent churches).
There are also various published lists of university graduates (e.g. Alumni
Oxonienses and Alumni Cantabrigienses), although Wales had a relatively high
proportion of non-graduate clergy - see also
http://www.genuki.org.uk/big/wal/TheoColl.html.
The main unpublished archival sources for beneficed clergy and curates would
be the diocesan registers in the National Library of Wales.
