Hi Stringer
I seem to be having a problem with some messages not being sent when I press
the send button. So I'm sending this again. Apologies if it is sent twice.
Jane is the dau of Thomas and Mary, not Thomas and Jane.
Evan Evans (-1848 Ffinnant) m Jane (probably Carter)
Son Thomas Evans (1804, Dol-Llys - abt 1890) m Mary
Dau Jane Evans (abt 1854 Ffinnant - aft 1911) m. Richard Pugh Evans (1855
Chelsea)
Evan Evans (-1848 Ffinnant) m Jane (probably Carter)
Son Evan Evans (1791 Llanidloes - bef 1871) m Margaret Gittins
Son Thomas Evans (1824 Clap) m. Sarah Pugh (1823 Talgarth Mill)
Son Richard Pugh Evans (1855 Chelsea - aft 1911) m. Jane Evans (abt 1854
Ffinnant)
Note that I haven't PROVED that I have the right Jane as wife of Richard
Pugh Evans. This would require the marriage certificate. But it seems almost
certain, especially given the census data showing servant Jane Humphreys
accompanying her from Ffinnant to London/Surrey. Also, they had lost 5 of
their 6 children by 1911. I don't know why, but it might be due to health
problems caused by a cousin marriage. It certainly wasn't due to poverty.

Nicola..am trying to piece this together. Richard Pugh Evans born 1855
Chelsea married Jane Evans, daughter of Thomas and Jane Evans,Ffinnant.(his
cousin once removed you said) Is Thomas the Grandson of Evan
Evans(1770-18480 and Jane Carter(1769-1841)...if so who is Thomas's father?
Very confusing ,but I must be sure to record it correctly.

I haven't noted sources for what I found about on this Richard Pugh Evans.
However, I found from Google searches that he had a very successful
slaughterhouse in Kensington and was awarded substantial compensation when a
road was widened. I guess this came from the London Gazette. It might be
worth trying to find out what archives are held in Kensington.
I am reasonably certain that he married his first cousin once removed, Jane
dau of Thomas and Mary Evans of Ffinnant, Trefeglwys (another Shropshire
marriage, in 1877). A servant, Jane Humphreys, who is about four years older
than Jane follows her down from Ffinnant and becomes her housekeeper in
Surrey.

Richard Pugh Evans born 1855 Chelsea,London to Welsh parents. I know that he
was listed as a butcher living at Woodhatch House in Reigate in some of the
later census results and employing quite a few butcher assistants.. There is
an old story passed down in my family that he was the butcher who supplied
meat to Queen Victoria...tall story perhaps or is it true..Is there a way of
finding out. Would like to tell my elderly Aunt.
