Hello. New to the list. Here are my interests:
My most recent Powys ancestors are James Powell Brees, blacksmith, (born 24
Nov 1784, Aberhafesp, died 1867 Shrewsbury) and Jane Pryce (born about
1794 in Llandinam, died 1863 in Shrewsbury). They were married 15 July 1809
in Llandinam.
I don't know for sure who Jane Pryce's parents were (and would love to find
out).
James Powell Brees' parents were Thomas Brees, blacksmith (died 29 Dec
1805, buried 2 Jan 1806 in Llanwnog) and Mary Powell (baptized 27 Feb 1754
in Newtown, buried 15 Feb 1844 in Llanwnog). They were married 3 Feb 1784
in Newtown. (Thomas had previously been married to a Mary Lewis.)
I believe, although I am not absolutely certain, that Thomas Brees was the
son of Thomas Brees and Ann Lloyd (married 26 Feb 1744/5 in Trefeglwys). I
would be happy to see this confirmed (or disproved.)
Mary Powell was the daughter of James Powell (maltster, buried 16 Jun 1780
in Newtown) and Mary Thomas (buried 20 Feb 1792 in Newtown). They were
married 11 Nov 1750 in Newtown.
I don't know who Mary Thomas' parents were.
James Powell is said to have been the son of a William Powell of Cilgwrgan,
Llanmerewig, and the grandson of a William Powell and someone surnamed
Pryce. Of course, I would like to know more about that.
I am interested in the Lloyds of Cefnbarrach and the family of Andrew
Brees, dyer, of Trefeglwys, under the assumption that I am descended from
them, although I may be mistaken about that.
