Hi Carol and Alison, I knew all these Lines and travelled on them all
before I was sent to the Suez Canal in 1951---1953 in the UK Army, etc . And
And I saw them again when I came back to Mid Wales at Llandrindod Wells
and was then sent to Hereford on the GPO Tels work for many years. and in
Aberywith and all Mid Wales and UK areas, and in Germany, and Uganda , etc.in
1964 to 1973, and then to London.......I hope to see you again this Summer
and Alison in Wales please???
With Best Wishes

Hello Alison
Thank you so much for this information. We would never have found this in a
million years... I have spent hours trying to understand the route that
would have transported William's body. It must have been an unbelievably
long journey for the family. Roger's mother was 11 when her father died
and,
as is too often the case, we weren't as interested in the family history
when she and David, Roger's father, were alive.
We will be spending a week in the Trefeglwys/Llanidloes area in late May
and
hope that we can "catch" up while we are there. If not, we'll see you at
NLW
for sure!
Thanks again.
Carrol

Hi Carrol
Check this map out [PDF]:
http://www.geowiki.com/New_Adlestrop_Railway_Atlas.pdf
The blue lines are lines that are currently open, the faded lines have
since
closed. Most of these were axed by Beeching
(
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Beeching_Axe or similar links if you're
interested).
I would have imagined the route was via Builth Road and up to Llanidloes.

My husband's grandfather died in Lyonshall, HEF and was buried
in Dol
Halfren Cemetery, Llanidloes in 1909. His body was taken by train from
Eardisley Station to Llanidloes as noted in the newspaper account
below. Can any member of the list suggest the route the train would
have taken? I've been trying to figure it out but there seem to have
been so many different companies and lines that I'm quite confused.
We are always very appreciative of the vast amount of knowledge of
members of this forum and hope there is a train enthusiast who can
help with this query.
Thanks for any assistance that can be offered.
