Subject: [POWYS] (BRE) DAVIES, Ystradfellte
Dear Listers,
I am researching John and Margaret Davies, who were at Tonpyrddin, Ystradfellte, in the
1861 census, with dau.Mary(15) and dau Gwenllian (13). In 1851 they are at
Glynmercher Isaf, Ystradfellte. I believe my wife is descended from this Gwenllian
Davies.
We know that a John Davies and his wife Margaret are buried at Bethel Chapel, Glyn Neath.
(she died 19 Dec.1867 age 61. He died 23 Jun. 1868 aged 52.) These ages tie in
exactly with the Tonpyrddin couple.(above).
We applied to Neath Registrar for certificates which confirmed the death details, etc,
but the 'place of death' is given as Waindwlly, Ystradfellte, for John, and
Gwaindwlly, Ystradfellte, for Margaret. (At my request the Registrars have confirmed the
spelling is as shown here.) I have tried in vain to identify this place.
Can anyone please help identify Waindwlly/Gwaindwlly ? Does anyone have any
connection with these DAVIESes?
Kind regards, Ron Smith,
Romford, Essex
