Hi All
Some corrections to my original message.
Further research has shown that Clement Ekins died on the island of Barbados
in 1832 - so a memorial to him in Brecon seems less likely. In addition to
his military capacity he was also the coroner for the County of Brecon who
resigned in 1831 and the husband of Mary Ann Williams (d.1848).
Their young son who died at Brecon in 1833 was Clement William Hansard Ekins
(1825-33).
The only possibility for memorials in the Brecon area would appear to be for
either C.W.H.E. or their first son, Richard Heron Hansard Ekins (b.1819),
who also died young but when is not presently known. Records of burials in
Brecon may well provide the answer here for these two. Clement Ekins' eldest
child, Mary Ann Hansard Ekins (1818-1910), lived to a good old age and her
death was recorded in the December quarter of 1910 in the Brecknock
registration district - so there may also be a memorial for her in or around
St Mary's Church or St John's Cathedral, perhaps in connection with the
Williams family.
Many thanks to John Ball for pointing out about the possibility of MIs for
these two churches.
Does anyone have access to the Brecon burial records for the first half of
1833 (C.W.H.E.) or 1832-1852 (R.H.H.E.)?
Best regards

Subject: Clement Ekins at Brecon - 1833
Hi All
Having come across a record of the death of Clement Ekins, late coroner
for the County of Brecon, published on 1st July 1833, I'm wondering
whether anyone knows of any memorial to this person, or his father of the
same name (recorded the previous year as having died, too) - in or around
Brecon?
There is a possibility of a family connection with St Mary's Church in
Brecon, where the son is said to have been married to Mary Anne Williams
on 7th August 1817. The other possibility is St John's Cathedral, Brecon,
where their daughter, Mary Ann Hansard Ekins, was christened on 23rd
November 1818.
