Beginning March 2nd, 2020 the Mailing Lists functionality on RootsWeb will be discontinued. Users will no longer be able to send outgoing emails or accept incoming emails. Additionally, administration tools will no longer be available to list administrators and mailing lists will be put into an archival state.
Administrators may save the emails in their list prior to March 2nd. After that, mailing list archives will remain available and searchable on RootsWeb
Hello Listers,
I've recently discovered the Scout Association's Archive website
<www.scoutsrecords.org>, a fairly new and expanding resource for anyone who
has ancestors who were active in the Boy Scouts Association in the UK in the
20th century.
The website search engine is rather rudimentary at present, and many of the
records listed are not yet online, and are not properly indexed, but the
digitisation programme is due to be completed by June 2014.
If your ancestor earned a scouting award you can search directly from the
front
page: <www.scoutsrecords.org>. Positive search results offer an opportunity
to purchase an image of the relevant awards index card (£1 each).
For other documents and images I advise browsing the catalogue and looking
for relevant sources.
If you are lucky enough to have ancestral scouting links with Birmingham,
the Scouts Association's Archive website offers in its catalogue a
collection entitled the Birmingham County Scout Archive. This is a treasure
house of information from the early days (circa 1907) right up to 2010. It
includes an almost complete run of Annual Report booklets from 1948 up to
2003. While most of the records listed are not yet online, all the annual
reports are accessible free (as PDF files). Unfortunately, as yet there is
no index to names or other entries in the annual reports, but they are well
worth browsing.
Finally, the Scout Association's Archive catalogue lists 'Baden-Powell
Papers Online', comprising loads of material about "BP" including
scouting-related personal correspondence, much of which has yet to be placed
online and is not fully indexed.
<www.scoutsrecords.org> is well worth exploring both now and at regular
intervals of the coming months, to see what has been added,
Kind regards,
John

Hi everyone
I am looking for information on Roger Jones, born 13 April 1853 in Can
Office, Llangurig and his wife, Catherine Jones who I think was the daughter
of Rees and Mary Jones.
I believe that Roger was the son of David Jones, baptised 14 March 1813 and
Sarah Jenkins, baptised 3 February 1813.
David Jones, who would be my Gt Gt Grandfather may have been the son of an
Edward and Margaret Jones who were married on 21 May 1791.
If anyone else is researching this family perhaps we can exchange
information.
Regards
Peter Jones

Trying to pin down Mary Jones from Berriew
My 2G grandfather was a Peter Crow b 1858 in Merthyr Tydfil.
According to his birth certificate his mother was a Mary formerly Jones
and his father another Peter Crow. Unfortunately I have not found any
parish or registration details for their marriage. I suspect that they
did not actually get married as he was already married. In addition the
census and other records for her do not give a consistent birth date
though they do consistently say she was born in Berriew. The dates vary
between 1823 and 1829 and off course she may also have been married
herself in which case I do not think that I have much hope in tracking
her down.
Searching for a Mary Jones in Wales is always going to be difficult and
I have identified 8 possibilities and I am sure that they may be others
that I have missed. I am not asking anyone to do any research on my
behalf but if anyone has already accounted for any of them and
therefore can help me eliminate some of those on the list then I will
be eternally grateful.The list is
Parents Date
Abode
Richard & Jane 4/8/1822
Trwstywelin
Robert & Susanna 1/6/1823
Garthmill
Edward & Mary 11/4/1824
Berriew
Matthew & Mary 2/10/1825
Trehelig this is Welshpool I think
Richard & Mary 27/8/1826
llivior
Edward & Sarah Woodhouse 26/11/1826
Trwstywelin illeg?
John & Priscillah 10/5/1829
Garthmill
William & Jane 1828 from 1851 census record
Berriew
All these places are part of the Berriew parish aside from Trehelig
which as I have said I think to be Welshpool.
Thanks in anticipation.
