Hello list
First of all my sincere apologies ~ the list had a malicious email from my email address on 29 April
I was hacked ~ 70 emails had been sent altogether NOT from me though. Passwords changed etc. so all good at the moment, sorry for the inconvenience.
I have heard back from Shropshire Archives regarding the possibility of Trinity Hospital Records having a date of birth or place of birth for their inhibitants but this was their response:
=====
I have looked at the Trinity Hospital records, we hold a register of admittances and vouchers of nominations of almsmen. Unfortunately, neither state where an almsman was born, but the election vouchers do state which town/area they have lived in for five years. I have already checked the admittance register and the entries tail off about 1840 and your ancestor is not included. If you wanted a search for his nomination it would take one hours research time as the nominations are separated into several areas.
=======
Does the list agree I would not gain anything from this research as I have James on the 1841 census living at Trinity Hospital Clun and he died in 1845. He says Yes to being born in the County.
Thank you all for your interest.
Best wishes Shirley

Hi Shirley,
Trinity Hospital does not seem to have been only for those born in Shropshire
county unless there were different rules at different times. I have in my tree
William Greenwood born in Llanbister, Radnorshirewho died at Trinity Hospital in
1871 and was buried back in the family plot in Llanbister. In 1861 he was
working on his son-in-law's farm at Treverward and that is his Shropshire
connection. My note about Trinity Hospital is that it was "charitable
accommodation for 12 men of good character".
Best wishes,
Mary

Hi Sue
Thank you for your suggestions ~ I think the main reason I am looking in
Shropshire is that James died at Trinity Hospital in Clun and they are Alms
houses. I was told that to be resident there you would need to have been born in
the village or county, perhaps someone on the list can confirm if that is the
case?
The names of their children may have derived from James's parents i.e. James
born 1791, John 1792, Richard 1795, William 1797 (my direct ancestor), Thomas
1799 and Mary 1802. Margaret's parent's were John and Elinor Corns I haven't
been able to go any further up that branch yet.
We do have to keep open minded so I will certainly further into your suggestions
Sue, thank you.
Kind regards
Shirley

Hi Shirley
Have you considered searching beyond Shropshire - there are a few baptisms
recorded in the Chester diocese - the dates are a bit out but might be worth
investigating to see if you can find other Staleys/Stayleys. Also, Chester is
not that far away from Shropshire.
James Stayley son of Edward. December 22 1751. St Michael, Macclesfield. (Abode
given as Upton, Hereford)
James Stayley son of James and Elizabeth. February 15th 1785. St Michael,
Macclesfield (Abode given as Sutton)
There are also a couple of wills in the Chester archives - James Staley of
Macclesfield Park. 1759
and James Stayley of Buglawton. 1783
hope this might be of help.
Sue

Dear List
One of my brickwalls is my 4xGr Grandfather James Staley born abt 1767 I cannot
find where he was born, can anyone help please? James married Margaret Corns 20
Jun 1790 Lydbury North. Margaret was born 8 Jan 1769 in Lydbury North. James
died on 1 Jun 1845 in Trinity Hospital, Clun. All six of their children were
born in Lydbury North. I have searched at the Archive Office in Shrewsbury the
following places for James' birth:
Bishops Castle, Clungunford, Ludlow, Petton, Pontesbury, Westbury, Worthen,
Ratlinghope, Chirbury, Smethcote.
I have particular interest in researching this branch of my family as I have
'inherited' the Staley name as a middle name. Any help would be much
appreciated.
Kind regards
Shirley (Frost)

Dear all,
As the list is quiet I thought I might give you all something to get your teeth into.
With two fellow family members I have been trying to resolve the origins of "our" John Moses.
According to the researches of Tommy Evans of "Roots & Branches", John Moses was born in Defynnog in 1762 and has been connected as son, to Moses
Thomas and Mary David, both of Defynnog. Moses Thomas, a tiler, and Mary's family are all recorded in Defynnog Church records, however there is no
reference in the records of John. Interestingly, the family records for a period of 5/6 years around the time of John's birth are silent. The question arises asto whether John was born elsewhere and if the family were located elsewhere at the time, but it does seem odd that Tommy would have originated John in Defynnog without some proof, as he was most thorough in his researches.
The "admitted" children of Moses and Mary are :- David (1755) : Margaret(1758) : Samuel (1765) : Benjamin (1771) ; Mary (1773)
John would fit nicely into the "gap" between Margaret and Samuel
John Moses married Gwenllian Price in St. David's. Llywel, Trecastle, 22nd Oct 1785, and thereafter the family is well recorded. apart from an element (Watkin Bowen Moses, Mary[nee Williams]his wife and their 10 children) who went to Gelli Gaer. Watkin was one of John's grandson's and initially farmed Neuaddlwyd, a farm of 125 acres in the Yscirfechain valley, Merthyr Cynog, before moving to Gelli Gaer, but returned to the family farm of Llwyncelyn, Trecastle in 1904 when his father died. Most of the 10 children stayed in the Gelli Gaer area.
We've been through many hoops, now its your turn.
Where was John Moses born? and are Thomas and Mary in Defynnog his parents ? All help gratefully received.
Regards
Roger M Evans
Dear Listers,
You may be interested to know that thanks to Huw Walters, I have been able
to positively identify the Welsh church referred to in my message of 3rd
May.
The church is the Harris Memorial Chapel adjacent to Trefecca College near
Talgarth, Breconshire. The chapel was demolished some time ago.
I've since found an old postcard image showing the chapel - currently on my
website:
http://www.jlb2011.co.uk/harris-memorial-chapel.jpg
The postcard is on the online database (Coflein) of the Royal Commission on
Ancient and Historical Monuments of Wales.
Huw Walters provided me with a link to page of photos of Trefecca College:
http://freestgeorges.blogspot.co.uk/2009/07/coleg-trefeca.html
On the original photo, the building in front of the church is very
distinctive, and matches exactly the building shown in the sixth image on
the page of photos. The only difference is that the former doorway shown in
my old photo has been replaced by a large window.
Thanks to everyone who tried to identify the church for me.
Kind regards,
John

I'd be most grateful if anyone can suggest the identity of the church.
Many thanks.

Hi list,There's a Wesley Festival coming up from the 23rd of May to the 26th of May at Llanlleonfel Church and Garth that includes celebrating the marriage of Charles Wesley and Sarah Gwynne.Lots of interesting events including a fete, the marriage re-enactment, songs of praise and the fete and open gardens at Garth House.Further information is available at http://www.irfonvalleyparish.co.uk/Sounds very interesting and I hope that the weather is lovely and sunny over the weekend for everyone.
Hi John,
Isn't it a lovely old image? I don't know where it is, but if you don't get
a satisfactory response from the Lists, you could upload it to the Glamorgan
FHS page on Facebook. It would always be there for many people to see.
Best wishes, Jill
