I'm looking for a map showing the M/R border at a sufficient level of detail that I can pick out individual farms.
I'm researching the Powells (and incidentally Hamers, Owens, Rees etc) around and pre-1800 in the area bounded roughly by Llanbadarn Fynydd, Llandinam, St Harmon and Abbycwmhir. I'd love to hear from anyone else with similar interests.

Hi,
For me, it doesn't seem correct that his parents were Edward Savage and
Mary Soley. Richard Bennett seems to think that he was the one bpt. in
1733/4 to Edward. Though FindMyPast isn't throwing up a marriage. Nor is
there one at Kerry, Mochdre, Hyssington or Llanbrynmair.
I also noted the child Athelston for the same reason, but couldn't see a
connection.
I also looked to order Ed Savages' marriage licence, but it seems to be
lost. Though I have found some marriage bonds incorrectly listed so will
have another look, i.e. the groom has been mistakenly listed at the
bride's bondsman.
I think I gave you access to my site (http://arakiel.co.uk/) a while
back, though I can't remember for which family you enquired.
Finally, do you know if there are any lists of freeholders, with ages in
Montgomery quarter sessions? Edward Savage's son Edward is a gent., so
would image his father would have had some land.
In regards to Llanbrynamir, there is:
Edward s. of Andrew Savage clrk & Sarah born 21 jun bpt. 10 Jul 1665
Edward Savage & Sara Jones, 21 may 1672 mar. (a few children)
John ill s. of Edward Savage of Trefeglwys & Jane Rowland, mar 1684/5

Hi David
I have hit the same brick wall as you.
The only things I can add are these:
* A family tree on familysearch has the following note on Edward Savage, the
husband of Mary Soley: " Info from Savage Church Farm page, Film 104". This
is presumably available for viewing through LDS centres.
* Edward Savage and Elizabeth Davies named their second son Athelstan
(1774). I had hoped that the use of this name would link him to Richard
Savage vicar who had children, including Athelstan, between 1694 and 1709 in
Welshpool, Tregynon, Darowen and Llanbrynmair. However, this is not the case
if Edward Savage d. 1784 had a father is called Edward. I am reasonably
certain that Rev Richard Savage had no son Edward since he listed all his
children in the Llanbrynmair register when he moved there. Nevertheless, I
think that the use of the name Athelstan offers the best hope of finding the
ancestors. There are a few Athelstan Savages in Montgomeryshire, but not
very many.
* Various Savage families move outside Montgomeryshire quite a lot. I have
come across some in Cheshire (but earlier) and Shropshire. It might be worth
checking Shropshire parish registers.
Best wishes
Nicola

Hello Annette
Some years ago I transcribed all Parry people down from St. Mary's
Ellesmere, along with about another dozen surnames belonging to me. I
assume you have taken the information re. Samuel and his parents from
FamilySearch? Anyway, my files have long come in handy. I can tell
you that Samuel was born on 08 Nov 1795 and the clergyman baptising
was J.A. Cotton, vicar. Page 100.
Richard and Mary (still of Ellesmere) then had a son John bap. 10 Dec
1797, born 14 Sep. Ceremony by curate J. Cavell. Page 118.
Margaret followed, baptised 03 April 1801, born 29 March, Ceremony by
Flavell. Page 153.
Going back prior to Samuel, I find a daughter Mary, bap. 03 Nov 1793,
no date of birth. Ceremony by J.A. Cotton, vicar. Page 81.
Concerning the marriage of Richard & Mary:
Page 73/295. 13 Sep 1792. Richard Parry (x) & Mary Davies otp
bachelor and spinster. Ceremony by John Cooper of Penley. Wit: Edward
James & John Gough.
John Gough was a churchwarden and a regular witness. Edward James
may have been a friend or a relative.
I'm not certain about this, but I seem to have written " for Richard
after the previous entry which was Oswestry, so if he was not otp
then he was of Oswestry. It's so long ago I can't quite recall. The
only way to find out would be to obtain the microfilm through the LDS
people. My fault for not being detailed enough at the time. Probably
chatting to other researchers :-[.
As Davies was also one of the family names I was researching, I took
all of them down as well. There are only two Mary Davies in St.
Mary's Ellesmere regs who would fit re. age, but this is of course,
not discounting any others from nearby villages.
Baptism. 16 Feb 1758. Mary d/o Thos & Mary Davies, of Ellesmere
Baptism. 30 Sep 1770. Mary d/o Philip & Ann Davies of Ridge
Best wishes
Might be more. Will talk off-list.
Cheers
Graham
