the official Broderbund site appears to offer you the chance to buy online -
their website address is www.Broderbund.com - there is a contact button so
you could ask them the question abt Ancestry link you keep getting.

Subject: [POWYS] HELP Software
Hi all,
It's a long time since I wrote to the site but I read it avidly each day.
However, I've now come up with a problem concerning software to see my
records.
I began to keep records (many moons ago) on a Broderbund Family Tree Program
and updated to a newer version every few years.
However, I recently bought a new computer and when I looked for my original
disc (dare I say? It was the 2006 version!) to install onto the new
computer so that I could view 25 years of records..... I find it will not
allow me to look at the final version.
When I looked on Amazon to see if I could buy a 2011 version, I now find
that it is Ancestry.co.uk who are advertising.
Please, can any kind person tell me (in easy to understand jargon!) .....
Have Ancestry taken over Broderbund?
If so, if I buy their latest version (Platinum 2011) will it allow me to
read my old files?
If not - What can I do? Is there a way I could read my old file on any
other software?
I still have my old computer with the original program and all the versions
of my tree from day one to the present day (35 MB) but would really like to
now use this version on my new computer.
Any information as to the choice of a new, compatible Family Tree Program
would be exceptionally gratefully received.
Myra

Dear listers,
I am pleased to announce that the following records have been added online:
Baptisms:
Llanwnog 1669-1873
Montgomery 1575-1880
Marriages:
Llanwnog 1669-1837
Montgomery 1575-1837
Burials:
Llanwnog 1669-1882
Montgomery 1575-1850
They are to be found on http://www.findmypast.com
The parish records of 46 Montgomeryshire parishes can now be found on this site.
These transcriptions are the work of a small group of members of the
Montgomeryshire Genealogical Society. These will be published in booklet
form, but there is currently a backlog in the printing of these booklets so
we trust that the appearaance of the records online will help researchers.
Gaps or difficult to read passages in the parish registers have been
supplemented by use of the Bishop's Transcripts so we believe that the
finished product is as comprehensive and inclusive as it is possible to be.
For a full list of the society's publications and details of membership
please see our website: http://home.freeuk.net/montgensoc/

Hi Millie,
Long time since we corresponded.
I think the name you need is Rhyse Pugh GITTINS. I am just starting to reseach him as a soldier who died in the lst World War from Hyssington.

Hello Searchers.
In the Llanwyddelan area according to the 1851 census, Gittins was
almost as common a name as Jones. Here's just a few:
Treganol (township) - Adfa House - William 36, Mary (w), Ann (d),
William (s).
Tyn y Celin - William 72, Mary (w), John (s).
Pencoed township - 7 Pant - Thomas 58, Gwen (w), John (s), Richard (s),
David (s).
10 Pen y Parc - John 57, Jane (w), Dan 18 (nephew).
Llwyncoppa (my Gittins) - Jane 55 (head), Sarah 31 (d), Christopher 24
(s), Roger 21 (s), David 18 (s) Howell 16 (s).
Neuadd Goch - Christopher 67 (head).
22 Tyn y Pant - John 38, Gwen 43, John 16 (s).
5 Felinfach - Thomas 45, Mary (w).
9 Hen Factory - Mary.
4 Church House - Elinor 32 (servant).
5 Church House - Rogers 55, Susannah 62 (w), John 15 (grandson).
10 Pengelly - William 38 (head), David 35 (brother), Sarah (sister),
Richard 71 (father), Mary (Mother).
They all appear to originate in the local area.
There is an interesting website with a Gittins coat of arms
(http://www.4familytrees.com/gittins/familystory.htm) which tells of a
William Gittins of Carno emigrating to the US. Carno is just down the
road (so to speak) from Llanwyddelan and Adfa and possibly some of those
listed here are inter-related.
Heddwch.

Hello Rita,
Glyn posted two families, the family of John and Susan and the family of Richard
and Sarah.
According to my data he assigned the Mary Gwilt (b.c.1824) who married into the
Crow family to the wrong parents, hence not picking up that the two Crow brides
were sisters, and hence no obvious connection between Richard Gwilt and the
Crows.
Regards
Peter
Hi Peter
Thanks for the data
Originally I too had William and Edward Crow marrying two Gwilt
sisters Mary and Susan respectively. Then I found that on the new IGI
site that the fathers were listed for the two marriages, and for Susan
that was John Gwilt but for Mary it was Richard Gwilt. If this is
correct then they are clearly not sisters and unfortunately I left an
error in my data as the christening data I quoted is for a Mary Gwilt
born to John Gwilt and Mary. There are a number of William & Mary Crow
families in the census records and I need to recheck them to determine
the birth details of this Mary.

Hello,
Thank you Peter for clarifying that two brothers had married two sisters, as I had not picked up on this either.
What I have missed is where does Richard GWILT fit in with these families?
Rita

I have Mary as being the daughter of John & Susan Gwilt - and thus the
sister of the Susan you have marrying Edward Crow.
> Richard Gwilt, who lived in Churchstoke and was an agricultural
> labourer, and his wife Sarah had the following children:-
I think Richard was probably christened 27th February 1796, son of John
Gwilt and Mary Henry, who were married in Churchstoke in 1795.
Peter J Richardson
My family tree namely the Crows crosses the path of the Gwilt family
from Churchstoke. I have interests in both Kerry and the Mainstone area
and note that the name of Gwilt appears in these places fairly
frequently. I have not done a lot of research on them and there may be
some errors. I have the following data that may be of interest to you.
Richard Gwilt, who lived in Churchstoke and was an agricultural
labourer, and his wife Sarah had the following children:-
Mary Gwilt c 30/11/1824 Churchstoke. She married a William Crow
17/2/1849 Mainstone. William was also an agricultural labourer. They
had children Emma; Thomas; Elizabeth; and Mary: They lived in
Churchstoke.
Emma Gwilt c 20/4/1829 Churchstoke
Eliza Gwilt c 4/12/1831 Churchstoke
Stephen Gwilt b around 1836 presumably Churchstoke
John Gwilt, who was a farmer and lived on Clomandy(a farm?) in
Mellington near Churchstoke, and his wife Susan had the following
children:-
Hannah Gwilt c 10/3/1827 Churchstoke
Susan Gwilt c 4/7/1828 Churchstoke. She had an illegitimate child
Frederick Gwilt b around 1847 in Churchstoke. She married Edward Crow
in Mainstone on one of these dates 26/1/1849; 26/1/1850; 20/1/1850:
They had a Mary Ann. Edward was also an agricultural labourer.
John Gwilt b around 1831.
William Crow and Edward Crow were brothers.
That is all I have on them. Hope data is of interest.

Hi Natalie
Can't see an immediate connection I'm afraid.
My g grandmother was also a Margaret Trow, but born in Kerry in 1824,
daughter of William and Margaret, whose children also included John,
Sarah and Emma.

Hi Carrol
You could always ask Powys Archives to do a lookup for you in the parish
register - very straightforward since you know the date of Mary's baptism.
Or you could post a lookup request here or on Rootschat. On reflection, I
think on the whole the name Mary for the mother is probably a mistake as you
thought.
I am sending you a pdf of what I have of Edward Jones's ancestry off list.
Best wishes
Nicola

Nicola,
The 1865 date for Mary's birth is a typo... it should be 1869. When we
purchased Mary's birth certificate, the person at the Newtown office
suggested that Mary's mother's name may have been incorrectly entered
because we told her we had found a "Mary" of the correct age in the census'
as the daughter of Edward and Phoebe Jones. Because we are in Canada we've
tried to piece the family together using the census docs and during our last
visit to Wales we had been concentrating on Roger's paternal family.
Researching Mary's family at the NLW will definitely be on top of our "to
do" list during our visit next year.
Thank you for reviewing the information we've recorded and suggesting the
possibility of Edward Jones, servant, marrying Mary Davies. For the time
being I will put this family to bed. :(
Best regards
Carrol
Hello everyone,
It has been a number of years since I sent a message, but I have been lurking for all that time.
I am tracing any Brick family in Wales from abt.1725 till now, some associated names are:
Jones, Evans, Woolley, Joseph, Beaumont, Palfrey, Edwards, Fielding, Thompson, Lewis,
If you have any Brick family members marrying into these names, I would like to hear from you.
Here's hoping

Thanks Steve
<http://welshjournals.llgc.org.uk/browse/listarticles/llgc-id:1238716/llgc...>
should come through unbroken.
It looks like there are a lot of other resources on the website as well.
Now all I have to do if find out whether the Kerry GWILTs are connected to
my GWILTs. :-)
Regards
Peter

Hi Carrol
A point of clarification, please.
In your notes you give the date of Mary Jones's birth certificate as 1865.
Is this a mistake for 1869? I'm at a loss to know why the mother should be
given as Mary rather than Phoebe, especially as Phoebe had a sister called
Mary. There remains the unhappy possibility that there was a servant called
Edward Jones and Gwernafon married to a Mary Davies. The parish register
should be able to shed some light. Have you checked this?
Edward and Phoebe moved from Rhydycarw to Gwernafon between 1861 and 1871.
My guess is that they moved there in 1863. Sarah Jones born 1860 was the
only child of Andrew Jones of Gwernafon, and since I think it was freehold,
she would be the heiress. Her father Andrew died in 1860 and her mother
Hannah Jones nee Davies remarried in June 1863 to Maurice Jones, Cwmbiga.
She moved into Cwmbiga at this stage, so Edward presumably took over
Gwernafon as a tenant. He was the first cousin of the above Andrew. Sarah
Jones is back in Gwernafon in 1901 after her marriage to Nicholas Bennett
Owen.

Nicola,
Thank you for your response; this is the first time we've even been remotely
close to a Jones relative. The information we have for my husband Roger's
grandmother and her family is as follows but please bear in mind that we may
be off on an entirely incorrect tangent and welcome correction from any
Jones researcher on the list. Of course we will be devastated that we
haven't found Mary's family :-).
Hi Duce , your Sun is still up early it seems, and all these names are
still found here in our Mid Wales area!!
It is nice to see you online again, and we just get a bit older too..and I
hope you are still in touch with Helen Brick our POWYS FHS GENERAL
SECRETARY as I have not been to any meetings recently....
With Best Wishes to you All, Dennis in Llandrndod,Wells,
