Dear David
Just to add to John's comments. The National Trust Surname Profiler
used to be on an academic site, which is where you may remember it from.
Also please note that it works with
* proportions of surnames, NOT absolute numbers
* there needs to be 100 names names in 1991
* and, I think, it uses post code areas, not counties.
Cheers

Dear David,
I don't know which website you were using years ago, but the 'National Trust
Names' website appears to do what you describe:
http://www.nationaltrustnames.org.uk/Surnames.aspx
Input a surname and select either of two available dates (1881 or 1998). The
website generates a map showing the geographical distribution of the chosen
name for the year selected.
A very useful tool.

The former parish church of St Gwynlleu (aka St Cynllo), at Nantcwnlle, near

I'm looking William Wade Williams b. 1815 in "Radnor N Wales" (Source: 1880 US Census lists his place of birth). He likely emigrated to the US in the 1840's. First record in the US is for the purchase of a farm in 1849 although I know that he worked in Maryland before that. The Wales 1841 Census lists several by name of William Williams with birth date of 1815. I'm currently trying to find exact date of birth.
Any help would be kindly appreciated.

Dear Michelle,
One doesn't need to quote a register number when applying to a local
register office. Volume and page numbers are only relevant to applications
made to the General Register Office (GRO) in London, in which case you'd
need to look them up in the GRO BMD indexes, e.g. via the Free BMD website:

Hi
I'm hoping that a kind lady called I think Julie is reading this mail.
A while ago you kindly gave me a registration number and address for the Neath office who would provide me with a copy of my gran's birth certificate. Unfortunately my e-mail provider has somehow deleted this e-mail which I thought I had saved.
I wonder please whether you would be able to send me this information again.
Many thanks for your time

Dear Karen
A useful start point would be to see if you can find the first marriage of
Elizabeth Williams. There should be witnesses to this marriage who could
help you pinpoint which Williams family to look for in the 1851 Census for
enabling you to discover more details concerning her origin.
So, into FreeBMD, http://freebmd.rootsweb.com/cgi/search.pl try putting
type 'Marriages', the name 'Elizabeth Williams' and spouse surname 'Morgan'
for the period eg. March 1855 - June 1871 to obtain a full list of marriages
for England & Wales which took place where an Elizabeth Williams was married
and someone by the name of Morgan was also included on the same register
page. From this list you may well be able to track down the correct
marriage.
Given Elizabeth's eldest son Lewis Morgan was aged 18 in 1881 and assuming
he was born after she was married, then this would make the year of her
marriage 1863 or earlier. Working backwards in the list, the first marriage
to fit the criteria would be:
DEC 1861 Elizabeth Williams Bedwellty 11a 119
where a James Morgan is also included on the same page.
Going further back, there are also the marriages of:
MAR 1858 Elizabeth Williams Abergavenny 11a 91
where an Isaac Morgan is also included on the same page.
MAR 1855 Elizabeth Williams Abergavenny 11a 83
where a David Morgan is also included on the same page.
Finally, if Elizabeth got married just after the birth of her first son,
then there is the following marriage of:
JUN 1863 Elizabeth Williams Bedwellty 11a 130
where a David Morgan is also included on the same page.
Nantyglo (Monmouthshire) registrations were made under the Abergavenny
district from 1837-61 and the Bedwellty district from 1861-1974. The local
parish church would have been St Peter's at Blaina.
Brynmawr (Monmouthshire until 1889, then Breconshire) registrations were
made under the Crickhowell district from 1837-1974. The local parish church
was St Ellyw's (Elli's) Church, Llanelly (Gilwern). However, in 1872, I see
that Elizabeth was married at Bethlehem Baptist Chapel, Llanelly.
Since Elizabeth was born in Brynmawr, if her family was still resident there
at the time of her marriage then you'd have expected her to be married in
the Crickhowell district, possibly at Llanelly (Gilwern) parish church.
However, there don't appear to be any marriages for an Elizabeth Williams in
this district during the relevant period where a Morgan was also included on
the register page. The only oddity is an Elizabeth Williams in the DEC 1857
quarter, where the district, volume and page are incorrectly given as:
'Crickhowe 11b 30'. However, since Elizabeth finally ended up in Swansea,
there are two marriages during the period for an Elizabeth Williams at
Swansea:
SEP 1858 Elizabeth Williams Swansea 11a 666
where a William Morgan is also included on the same page.
JUN 1863 Elizabeth Williams Swansea 11a 765
where a William Harris Morgan is also included on the same page.
But these last two are the least likely options.
What I'd do next is check the Bedwellty and Abergavenny-registered marriages
against the marriage register for St Peter's at Blaina, Aberystruth and see
if you can find an Elizabeth Williams, who's father is Charles Williams,
marrying a Morgan. There was also a Baptist chapel in the Nantyglo area at
this time, for which someone else may be able to provide further details.
Once you know who Elizabeth married first, then you may well be able to find
the death certificate for her first husband - with his final address, plus
the details of the person reporting the death.
Every little clue helps!
Best regards

shown on 'Images of Wales' in September 2004.
2. The story of the Duff-Gordon family of Harpton Court near Old Radnor in
the county of Radnorshire (ten pictures). This feature was first shown on
'Images of Wales' in January 1998.
As usual, these webpages will be on display on my website for one week.

Hello,
I have just recently learned that the building you call Harpton Gate House is actually called "Harpton Lodge". Upon further research, I have found out that quite a few of my relatives have lived and/or passed away at Harpton Lodge.
If anyone has had relatives that lived at Harpton Lodge, I would love to hear from them.

You can order on line via the Parish Chest. _www.parishchest.com_

I have use them several times. They accept major cards.

Hi Nancy,
Powys FHS publishes a booklet with the monumental inscriptions for St Stephens, Llanstephan available through parish chest. They also do CDs and booklets of the various censuses for Radnorshire from 1841 - 1901 but I don't know about the availability of any parish registers for there on the Internet.
Hope that this helps

Dear Tom
A death certificate would not usually give a woman's maiden name but
occasionally the person present at death may give an indication of other family
names or connections.
Just a glimmer of a chance as usually it is a husband or child who is named
on the certificate.
Also the death cert will give an exact date of death and therefore, it may
be easier to track down a burial place and maybe a memorial inscription.
Regards
Anne
Hi listers, does or would anyone have access to the PR's of
Llanstephen,Rads.
I am looking for any Havards, specifically any records for William and
Jonas.
The birth and bapt of William in 1824.
I have had a major pc crash and you've guessed it...my records
